Jerry Johnston and Richard Dawkins: The Decline of Christianity in America

Did you know there has been a study decline in Christianity in America? In fact, over 20 percent of adults in the United States say they have no religious affiliation. So why exactly is Christianity on the decline in America? Jerry Johnston discusses the topic of religious decline in America with Richard Dawkins, an atheist, who is well known for his criticism of creationism and intelligent design.

When asked by Jerry Johnston, why the decline of Christianity? Richard Dawkins asked “why isn’t it 100%?” and stated he is delighted that it is as high as it is and that it is continuing to climb. As for the reason, Dawkins hopes it is due to books that have been written by authors like him, Christopher Hitchens and others. He also stated that research has shown a correlation between “social deprivation” and religious belief. Like in countries such as Sweden, where there is social welfare people tend to “lose” their religion.

Do you agree with Richard Dawkins? Why do you think there is a decline in Christianity in America? Let us know in the comments. Be sure to also check out upcoming documentary of Jerry Johnston discussing the decline of Christianity and rise of the “Nones”.
